Climate Control always on

Hello, although i've been reading this forum for a while, this is my first post...and is full of problems I have recently bought a '97 2.3 Ghia auto. First problem is that the climate control stays on even when the blower switch is set to 0, it still displays the temperature settings and the fan is still blowing hot air (that's the second problem, although the AC compressor is working there is no cold air). The HBC is destroyed and i left it disconnected (if anybody has a spare one...), naturally now the blower stays off but the CC still on, i will try with another HBC but i think that's not the only problem, i also tried another CC control panel (with the help of Octavian_P) and it's still the same. Anyone had this problem before? Regards.

To switch the CC OFF. BOTH dials need to be turned fully to the left otherwise it will still work. Also does the manual switch NOT work? the one with the little green light in it. If the position of the right hand knob is on the screen the AC is ON by default and will stay on... regardless because that is the default.

Hi there. Well i have introduced Huff already to the wonderful world of Scorpios. With both dials on the left the blower fan still runs and the temp gauges still work. Normally when blower fan is on off position - - is displayed instead of temperature or lo / hi. The problem is that we can't switch it off or reset it. The AC light does turn on / off via button and activates / deactivates the compressor

As Octavian_P said, the thing just won't turn off. Also the recirculated air and AC buttons don't work when the car is standing, i have to drive a few meters and then both work.

Sounds like a wiring/ Fuse box fault... Check the relays before going anywhere. May be a relay is stuck CLOSED... Others might have more knowledge.

hi there have you tried 'hard' resetting the unit by turning the dials as per the instructions for the reset then disconnecting the battery for a few minutes. reconnect the battery and see if you can do the reset now. hth

We have disconnected the battery, no luck. We turned all dials to left-most position (ventilation off, air direction knob to the left most position) but the LCD's still show temperature instead of ( - - ) Because of this we can't reset the module.

I left the battery disconnected about 30 minutes, but i am not sure that the dials were in the correct position. No change after that, i will try again with the dials to the left. I will also verify all the relays. It looks like i will need a new HBC and a receiver dryer (i found that some "mechanic" open it with a metal saw or something and then weld it back...don't know why...), i will put a post in the Parts Wanted section. Thank you for the replyes

Yes, we tried to reset it but when i press both buttons with the dials to the left, nothing happens, in fact the recirculated air and the AC turns on or off, because the cc is still on..

The CC still stays on, i will further investigate this problem. The second problem is that although the AC compressor runs there is no cold air. What other problem could be beside low refrigerant agent in the AC circuit? The AC guy told me that there should be at least 500g of r134a in the AC circuit, would that be enough to at least feel the AC pipes to the evaporator colder?

500g is the old spec, the new quantity is 1000g(edited), if there isn't enough pressure there the high pressure switch on the top of the dryer will not be activated and the compressor should not operate. hth Pete

Sorry Pete you are incorrect with the amounts. The original amount of refrigerant Ford used in the Scorpio was 740 g of R 134a +/- 10% which was then replaced by 1000 g +/- 20% . its all explained HERE

I knew there was some figures somewhere but couldn't remember where, thanks snoop, isn't it right to think then that 500g would be below the original quantity and then therefore would affect the switch operation? I am trying to learn as much as possible about this system< I think it is more sophisticated then many people including garage technicians etc believe having seen the bewildered looks on the faces of garage staff who have completed basic courses.... I would have thought it still worked albeit not very well. I do NOT know enough about the A/C to comment any further... I understand HOW it works ... latent heat etc but as the intricate workings NO . I have not got the time nor the inclination these days ... TOO old and busy!
