locking/unlocking by fob?
« on: Jul 16th, 2007, 10:32am »

I recently changed the batteries in my fob and reprogrammed it by switching ign. off and on and it worked fine. Went to the car yesterday and now it wont work. I tried to reprogramme it again, but now the car wont even acknowledge it (wont chime to say code accepted) although the car opens and starts fine by the key. Anyone got any ideas. john.n Huh

Hi..I am assuming the fob had worked before you changed batteries.
First thought would be if it worked for a day that the batteries are dead...check with a meter should be 3v min on each battery.

Where they new in sealed bag? if just one is bad that  would cause it to fail

Or there is muck across the contacts ...open up and clean the metal contacts on the pcb where the buttons hit

good luck...... john

Thanks for the reply Pedro. The remote wasnt working, thats why i changed the batteries, i aso cleaned the contacts and it worked fine for a while. I will change the batteries again as they are cheap but the ones i put in were brand new. I may try putting in 1 2032 instead of 2x 2016 I did that once before on another remote and it cured it. What i cant understand is why the car is not chiming to say it has recognised the remote. john

Ah!  sounds like the conductive rubber pads are caput. conductive paint will repair these...can get from radio spares expensive though

Putting in x1 2032 will make things worse..you will now be running the fob on 3v instead of 6v ..dont do that

1/ check the batteries are putting out 3v each
2/ clean the rubber contact pads and coat with a conductive paint

or get  a new fob!

Thanks for the reply jim, i think i have solved the problem, i took the remote apart-again and cleaned the contacts-again, they had picked up some dirt/residue. Then fitted 1 x 2032 battery, hey presto, fob now working again. What i will say is that if you strip the fob down, take your time cleaning it. To remove the remaining rubber looking dirt on mine i used a common school rubber. john

Just like dogma my fob eats batteries at the rate of 5-6 weeks. Fitting 1-2032 battery instead of 2- 2016 batteries did not make sense to me on first reading. The 3 volts instead of 6 volts situation. Can either  SCORBY_NEWBY or john.n come back and tell us if the fobs are still working with no problems.
Thanks
Alastair

my 2016 batteries last 6 months plus ..one reason they can flatten is if the carbon from the pads rubs off and is left on the tracks of the pcb. that causes the fob to imtermittently transmit and flatten the battery. the unit was designed around 6v not 3v.

I know it was designed to run on 6v not 3v but its never worked with 2x 2016 no matter what i tried and it seems to be working fine with 1x 2032. It probably won't last long but I'm not complaining at least it's working, Smiley which is a lot more than you could say for it beforehand.

You  could  try gluing  little pieces  of  metal  foil  on  the  contact  pads.

Superglue  is  best.

It was one of the first things i tried, It didn't work so i tried the conductive paint but still no luck. Then after reading john n's post i tried the 2032 and it worked so I'm just going to keep going as is forthe moment and see how long it lasts (or how short it lasts)
