Instrument panel dead - although lights work

My instrument panel is dead. Rev counter, speedometer etc. The lights work. At first the problem was intermittent - so it would be dead for a month, and then suddenly start working for a few days, and then back to dead. For the past 5 months, though, it's dead. Anyone's got a clue what this could be? I suspected a fuse problem, but as far as I can tell there aren't any dedicated instrument fuses.

Hi there, im suffering from the same problem myself, although the speedo works on & off, but the rev counter completely dead. Ive had a few replys to my post and could be the VSS in regard to the speedo, but rev counter ? Im going to take things to bits & have a fiddle around, if I get any joy will let you know what was causing it, or likewise if any other members give me other things to try, as they know more than I do about the problems.

Hi, Had a similar problem with mine then the fuse box got wet and i got alot of other problems. Rebuilt both fuse boxes and haven't had a problem since. Judging by the state of the fuse boxes i would say my problem was the contacts for most of the relays, (couldn't pin point a single culprit) very dirty and not very conductive. And if you do end up doing the boxes, Don't be daunted it's a lot easier than it looks Smiley

Thanks for the info, scorpy_newby, is there any guides on the main site for how to remove & rebuild the fuse boxes ?

I had the fuse box replaced so unfortunately I don't think it's that. Someone earlier suggested there's a chip behind the panel that can sometimes burn out. I have not ventured into taking the panel apart, though.

There are a couple of guides for the fuse boxes on this site, Should bring them up if you type in "fuse box rebuild". Haven't heard of a chip behind the panel so can't help there I'm afraid.
