Faulty tailgate lock

The tailgate lock on my estate will not operate. I have had to climb inside and remove the gate panelling in order to lift up the operating lever on the operating motor manually. I have replaced the complete locking system, including the relay R12 in the central fuse box ( admittedly using items from a scrap estate). All to no effect. Still nothing works. Am I missing something? Anyone got any ideas on what else I can try? John

There is a rubber boot that takes the wires for the lock motor from the tailgate to the body. It has been known for these to kink and split. slide the boot back and have a look at the wires inside. Simon

Have you replaced the lock barrel itself?. A common cause of problems is that the barrel is sticky and will not depress far enough to operate the mechanism when pushed in. WD 40 is the magic ingredient !. Have you checked for power at the lock ?.
