Will Cosworth speedometer/rev work in 2,9 12V

I've found a speedometer/revcounter from a Cosworth 24V and I want to put it in my 12V 2,9 to replace my currently dead panel. Are these items the same or are they different between 12V and 24 C

Where the two vehicles get the pulses from to power the rev( tachometer) is different bust as to whether it would work by just pluging it in I don't know I would presume it would... there is one way to find out ... try IT and then we will ALL know .

OK, sounds promising. If I were Ford I would have tried to squeeze as much out of the parts bin as possible so using the same instrument panel makes sense.

Just bear in mind that the 2 panels do have different codes when you do the mileage trip reset thing, so they are different in one way or another.
I'd have thought you would be ok, since both are 6 cylinder

OK. Got the old speedometer/rev counter cluster out. The 24V version from the Cosworth is NOT identical to the one I got out. There is a connector on the back missing. It's possible that the unit I bought is faulty, but it's hard to tell as I do not know what they ought to look like. (I will post pictures later)
I also learned that the instrument cluster must always be in the upright position. It doesn't say why. This presents a problem as all other replacement clusters available must be shipped. So, how does one ensure that it stays upright during transport.

On a Cossie,there are 3 connectors in the back of the speedo unit,
I have swapped an engine + the whole wiring loom for the engine to
16V and my rpm is "dead" and so is my fuel computer. so I would not
be surprised if the Cossie speedo would not work perfectly in the
12V system, but I think you should see at least the RPM being correct
due to both being six sylinder engines.
Anyone has a spare & working speedo cluster from a 16V ?
Oh... shipping, the sender should put stickers this way up into the
package. Then I guess you just have to trust the mailman!

pappa, you can always put on those stickers that change color when tipped over in additon to the 'important! this way up'-stickers. Don't know where to get them, but I've seen them on a few packages before.

I've accomplished the swap. It was actually fairly easy. I've never done anything like this before and everything is working fine. I learned that the car dismantling/spare parts places do not store the unit according to specs. Ford dealer claims that if it's stored clocks down some mercury would unsettle "and could pour out." Of course the dismantling place just laughed and said that it wouldn't be permitted for environmental reasons. They also proceeded taking the whole rev/speedo module apart into all it's constituent parts, then put it together again, to show me it that it didn't matter how you stored the unit. I don't know the facts behind this, but I guess it's possible that the calibration of the unit may go wrong if it's stored in the wrong position. Anyone else knows?

I wonder if the reason might be due to the use of that high viscosity oil to dampen the movement of the gauges? Stored the wrong way this might possibly flow out of where it is supposed to be.

I've done a virgin voyage with my 24v to 16v engineswap project.
found out many things that need to be fixed, but that's another story.
The speedo in this car is the original 24v speedo, and so is the whole
instrument panel. It's showing speed around 7km/hour less than
the actual speed is (Checked with a GPS unit). The fuel computer
is dead, there are no readings for the average consuption and the
kilometers left with the current petrol increases when the journey
progresses.  3274km left That's funny. Also the km display does
not match the actual km, it goes slower.
So it is time crawl under the beast to swap the VSS... That should help.
Also the rpm is showing less than the OBD for example,
the only cure for that is the correct instrument panel I
think 
Gearshift is currently a neckbreaking nightmare, but that's
another story...
