Loosing coolant, white foam in coolant tank

My 1995 Cosworth Ghia (175000 km) looses about 1/2 litre of coolant over 150 km. The coolant tank gets filled with white foam. After cooling down, this foam disappears but refilling is needed. What could be the reason? Regards from Belgium.

I would guess at a blown head gasket.

not sure about the white foam, but there are a few different reasons for water loss, my cossie has been diagnosed h/g 3 times, never was. first time was water pipe under the manifold, second was intermittent rad leak. third was the cats. not saying what it is, but you should get it checked before writing it off

The foam is the give-away. It will be blown between a cylinder and the water jacket. You might get away with a new gasket but it could need the head skimming.

I intend to renew both cilinder head gaskets, together with the seals of the cam shaft tensioner. Is there a manual, a parts list and list of special tools available. Are there any issues to be attended, apart from these manuals?

Thanks very much Highlander. I intend to renew the head gaskets while leaving the engine in the car. Can this be done? The manual demands special tools like splined head socket (21-002) and cilinder head guide studs. Does somebody want to sell these tools? Pat mentiones skimming the heads. Are there any limits to the skimming or do I jusk ask the machine shop to machine them untill perfectly flat?
