ABS & TCS Warning Light

Hi Everyone,
Pointers required please - ABS & TCS lights on dash.
On turning ignition key to 2, all test lights illuminate and go out as expected, but before engine switch on both the ABS & TCS lights come back on.
I've (or rather my mechanic) has checked all ABS sensors and there is resistance from all 4 and this has been checked back to the ABS module multiplug, so we assume all 4 ABS sensors and the loom are OK and I've checked all the fuses and they are OK.  Smiley
Also checked continuity between TCS and ABS multiplug.
We suspect that either a fault on the TCS is taking out the ABS or vice versa (Hoping that both modules are not duff). Undecided
Can anyone please give us some tests to carry out to isolate one or the other and notes on reading TEVES and how??.
Model is 2.0L 16V Ultima Petrol/manual
MOT is due so I have to fix this quick - your help will be much appreciated.
Best Regards,
GDWalker

I have a spare ABS unit you can try if you're in a hurry.
Possibly an internal fault in the unit itself.

Which ABS do you have? The link posted by Highlander is for the Teves20, although I have seen mention of someone doing a similar repair to the mark IV unit, but not seen any details.

If it is the Teves20 look at this thread, 5 posts down you’ll see a test you can do for one of the motor pins:

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=di splay;num=1174400199;start=4#4

I once had a code (can’t remember the number) that said something like low voltage supply. Whether that could be caused by a failing battery or poor earth dirty fuse etc I don’t know – the light went out next time I turned on the ignition so I didn’t investigate it.

The diagnostic leads many of us use are from:
http://www.obd-2.com/

I use the TriCom lead

Look through the OBD section of the forum for people’s experiences with different leads.

Thankyou to all those who have contributed (especially those with the wizard know how of dealing with dodgy soldering. I think the technical stuff is brilliant (although I'm not sure my mechanic will be so chuffed!! Shocked
I don't know whether I've got a Mark IV or 20 but either way, its well worth running with.
I'll give an update when Mark (mechanic) has done the jiggery pokery.
If we screw up then the offer of the spare pump might well be taken up.
Thanks again

Huh Some initial investigation...
It transpires that I must have the only ABS pump model that does not comply to any diagram on the site!!
The ABS pump fitted has only 1 lead out (the 2 pin Power/earth lead) and the multiplug as shown on the above track 5 (from Scorpioman) is nothing like the one going in to my ABS pump.
The one in mine is grey/red plastic and has 2 banks of 14 pins with the 2 at each end of the top row being fatties (as opposed to the other 24). Presumably 2 being live and 2 being earth, the interesting thing I noticed about 3 of the 4 connectors were still plugged with grease Huh Dunno if this is a red herring..
Before going any further and removing all the brake lines etc. to remove the unit entirely, can anyone shed any light as to this model of ABS Pump and whether the problem resolution is likely to be the same as documented.
Many thanks from a confused

Smiley Yep - that's the one - next question is, Does it suffer problem the same problem as the the MK IV  & 20 with the pins breaking loose or is the one whereby a complete module module replacement is necessary ?
with the address of BBA enclosed I guess its the latter!
Here's hoping its the former!!

I assume that is the MK IV
(I've only had dealings with the teves 20).
Someone did mention doing a similar repair to the MK IV but didn't give details.

A secolnd though - does anyone have the wiring schematics for the above beast, is so we might be able to understand the PWB a little better and to assist in diagnosis...

Your best bet would be to get the codes read first otherwise you can waste a lot of time, then if you have a code C1095 it might be worth cutting into the case on the other side to the two pins for the motor to see if the problem is there, - unless your type of controller comes apart easily.
If you do open it up and it’s covered in glossy clear mastic scrape that off around the pins – mine looked fine until I did that & even then it wasn’t obvious without an eyeglass, just a feint grey circle in the solder.

Have you checked the motor runs? Oddly every time after I’d connected the motor direct to the battery my ABS light went out next time I turned on the ignition– must have just been the vibration.

Getting the codes might be a problem - this car war a bit of a friday afternoon model, thats why I paid the princely sum of £100.. and then set about rebuilding this car with bits from my other Scorp, the idea being make 1 decent from 2 nearly shafted ones, everythings gone reasonably well apart from 2 niggles, an intermittant pulsing of revs when either hot or cold, which seems to be related to either / both the A/C pump (if its revving low A/C switch off sends back to normal 800 rpm) or power steering pump (if I turn the steering wheel when ticking over - revs drop??) and this d**ned ABS  / TCS fault (dont think I can blame the TCS though) so the ABS gets the GBH  Angry.
One of the problems with the car was numerous issues with the PCM and related to immobilsation etc. SO we swapped the PCM and ignition bits and all seemed tickety boo - car immobilised, alarm work,  hazards flash on deadlock, boot locks when engine ticking etc. However, took car in for codes reading and guess what? neither of the local Scorpio experts computers could read the codes Cry.
Hence I'm prepared to chisel the darned thing apart and solder the whole lot if i have to.
Unless you know of some crafty little quirk or the location point of percussive maintenance (where I clout it with a big hammer) or any other sound advice on how to obtain the codes, I'll be indebted to know it. I can then pass these gems on to the people with the gizmo's to do the job.

Huhi have replaced the IACV and bolted the new one on the same way as it came off - with lead coming in at about 11 o'clock (I think), would'nt have thought it possible to get it the wrong way round - but I'll check it out - thanks
