Hi all,a bit strange this one.the g/box dipstick keeps poping out it,s tube by about 5mm. Shocked At first i thought it might be a worn seal around the head of stick so replaced it with a good used one,but it keeps doing the same, so.....I was wondering if there are any breather hoses or similar which can become blocked & pressurise the casing  Huh.Gear changes are smooth & kickdown works fine although the box oil is dirty (but not smelly).Other symptoms are slow acceleration from standstill. It feels like im towing 3 ton untill 3000 rpm then it takes off!!!What do you think...Time for a new gearbox Huh

There should be a breather on the box somewhere if my memory is correct but an Oil change and new filters should help.  Is it better when its hot and been used ?

Para 31 on on this article might help locate the breather and associated parts.

the dip stick is being pressurised so popping up and out. It would definatley go for a blockage from the vent tubing.

Or, is the dip stick a nice fit, ie nice and tight. I know you have renewed the seal, but does it have any play. A new dip from a scrapper might be in order just to rule out the easy fix first.

Thanks for the advice guys, will investigate this weekend.Just out of intrest would a blocked vent or dirty oil cause poor acceleration at low revs? Thanks again ...Craig Smiley

Don't know really but if the box is NOT working correctly then ALL the power is not getting to where it should be so I suppose YES in short.

Well what a mission that was.Believe me if anyone else fancys cleaning the breather hose arm yourself with ......A long stiff piece of wire (to thread the tube back OVER the top of box ),a warm pair of socks & copious amounts of tea !!!.Seriously it is not an easy job & access whilst the box is in situ is poor, but with patience & a LOT of poking about with wire to guide the breather tube over the top of the box it can be done.My complete breather tube was blocked solid with a sticky residue with only a hole of approx 1mm left for it to vent through!! It took about 1 hour submerged in degreasent & a lot of air hose work to get it clean, but as a result ive done a 70 mile round trip this afternoon & the dip stick hasnt budged at all.So hopefully this has cured it.thanks again to all who gave advice.Tarar for now ...craig Smiley
