Advisory Items
Brake advisories: RBT Park Brake Efficiency: 24%

Advisory Items:
001 NSF Ball joint has slight play
002 OSF Ball joint has slight play

003 Exhaust system has minor leak of exhaust gases.
004 Parking brake: Your vehicle  has only just met the required park brake eficiency. It would appear that the braking system requires adjustment or repair
005 Advise signs of corrosion on rear brake pipes.

I wonder if anybody can offer advise on 001 and 002
Are they just track rod ends or shafts as well.

Do we have a picture or .pdf on the lower section of the steering so I can see?? also can I access the Ford Scorpio Ultima 24V Cosworth  manual directlyHuh

Cheers

you can't change them, they come complete with the wishbone.

I now move on...
This may tie up with the ball joints sited by my MOT tester...
As I brake, no matter haw fast I am going the brake pedal seems to be grabbed and then released causing me some concern! It is quite a heavy grabbing feeling at a rate I would guesstimate of once per revolution of the wheel. b.t.w THE BRAKES ARE BRILLIANT!!
It is as if the Discs were badly warped but I don't think they are  Huh
The previous owner passed on a garage bill for rectification of this problem 30/11/2006 for £368.94 [not a Ford dealer] It reads:
REPLACED FRONT PADS AND DISCS, REPACED REAR BRAKE CALIPERS AND HANDBRAKE CABLES AND ONE TYRE. REPLACED HOSE FLEXY PIPE.

Any ideas on this one folks I will start a new thread with this also for a global view.

You state that it has had a new handbrake cable, but it failed the MOT on it....

Could the new cable have stretched & maybe need re-adjusting via the locknut ?

This  " grabbing once per wheel revolution "    it's  not    an  erroneous  ABS   activation  is  it ?

Does the  brake pedal  pulsate when  braking heavily  ?

The previous owner  mentions rear  caliper and  handbrake cable replacement by a  non- Ford  garage  ( oh dear,    alarm  bells ringing  ) .   The  handbrake cable/s  are  a  real   sod    to replace,  are  you   convinced  these  items  WERE  fixed ?

BTW:  the  front wishbones  are  only  £ 73   new  per side   from   FPUK.

Have a read of the following link to an item which I posted a week or two back - it concerns juddering of the brakes and steering.

Hi alll Wink
Re- My car suffered alarmingly from judder on the steering when the brakes were applied at around 50mph, when I first got it. I eliminated almost all of it by changing the wish bone rear bushes some months ago, but the juddering gradually came back - not as bad as before, none the less I wanted it sorted. I was on the point of ordering some new disks, when I read the above URL.
What is happening when braking & car is traverling slow/or at speed, is on braking the wheel is moving back & out of alignment, excessively, due to worn bushes, (scrubbing tyres). The ABS is applying pressure to each wheel, once the pedal starts kicking (abs opperational) this then seems worse. The kicking is abs alternating brake pressure from one wheel to another.
If you carn't get under the car to check then, (in normal ride hight). Then with the front wheels straight ahead or slightly turned, you can get a bar, push it under the front of the tyre & lift. This will move the wheel back over. If there's quite a bit movment, the rear wishbone bush is worn.
No Pete in hull not a "bar" you get drinks from. Cheesy Grin

If you or anyone esle needs a GOOD pr of wishbones cw rear bushes. I've got them. Don't have a problem posting them. Oh & no silly prices like SS. Wink Wink

When I had the juddering problem and found the solution I posted, I noticed no ABS judder at the brake pedal. The only judder was on the steering wheel under light to medium braking as it passed through around 60 to 50mph. A further clue might be that the extent of the judder varied from one braking session to another - I suppose as the better friction sections of the two front disks happened to coincide sometimes.

It has covered around 1k miles since the 'fix' and it remains free of any reoccurance of the judder, that is apart from the very slightest of wobbles on the steering as I first touch the brakes.
