Electric Seat Problems (Manual Override)

Hi again, The electric drivers seat of my 98 2.3 Ultima 170k is refusing to tilt the back up. I read on the problems page that the module has to be replaced I just wondered if anyone knew why. I was a little concerned to put in a new module and it blows trying to drive a faulty motor? Also I am told there is a manual override with a screwdriver to move the back of the seat up until I can get a new module. I've removed the side cover but I cannot see it as yet. Finally is there anyway to know if the seat has explosive airbags or tensioners in it? Neverending electrical problems since it was in a recommended garage for 7 months having the engine repaired!

AKAIK only the very later models had side airbags ... There should be some indication somewhere on the vehicle... If its the motor ...... they are easily replaced .

if the seat has air bags there will be a little leather patch sewn on to the side of the seat, about half way up the side bolster

Thanks, mine was registered in Mar 1998 and I thought the last sold were in Aug 1998. It looks like it doesn't have airbags. As far as I can see the phillips screw holding the side cover on also should be able to manually adjust the seat. I tried but didn't want to force it took much. I'm wondering if this means something has jammed though I don't readily see have it will move one way and not the other unless it is electrical? Thanks for the help so far. Mark

If you look at the bottom of the windscreen from outside where the vin number is, it will show the number of airbags fitted 2 or 4 (info there for use by the emergency services in case of an accident)

you can by pass the module, trace the wires from the switch to the module, the corrisponding wires from the moudle to the motors are the same colour, cut & join, to do away with the module. just means there is no 'memory' function.

I pulled the module from my 95 12V my brother bent a little, awaiting repair. If anyone has a seat module available I'd be interested. Thanks again for all your help. Mark
