I have the same problem with a 95 2.0L 16v saloon, but it is definitely not the fault of the remote in my case.

I have programmed the same remote on our other 2 cars, a 97 2.0L 8v Estate and a 97 2.3L 16v saloon.  It works perfectly on both of these cars, will lock / unlock from across the street no probs.

The 97 estate does not flash indicators when it is double locked with the key or remote, but does require that the "unlock boot" button on the remote is pressed twice to unlock the boot.

The 97 Saloon, does flash indicators when double locked with the remote, (key won't work in door lock Undecided), and also requires that the "unlock boot" button on the remote is pressed twice to unlock the boot.

However, the "unlock boot" button on the remote only has to be pressed once to unlock the boot of the 95 saloon, but as in your case, I have to be very close to the car for this to work.

I know I haven't solved your problem, but do wonder if other owners, who only have to press the "unlock boot" button on their remotes once,  have to do so from pretty close to their scorp Huh

My remotes both have short range and I know they are clean with new batteries. Previous CCM didn't flash, but the current one does. The range was similar on both CCM's.

I find the range does improve once away from electrically noisy environments, but it never becomes good range. My Scorp is not alone in suffering short range - a previous new car was poor, but the latest new one works from >50'.

It may be due to the receiving antenna in the CCM - anyone know where the antenna is? If it is one of the plug in wires to the CCM variations in its location in the car might explain short range and no change in range between the two different CCM's I have tried.

Sorry had my Scorpio take me to Brugge, so I didn't get back to you    firstly it doesn't matter whether I'm near a radio mast or not   and yes I've tried cleaning the contacts    still no or very little range    thanks to all who replied    about the only other thing is an anoying 'missing' when I accelerate I've tried changing the 2 cheaper plug leads but until i know definiatley I'm a bit reluctant to spend £140+ on the other two

This trick will not solve the problem but might help you a bit:
-Stick the remote against your head when you press the button!
It looks kinda silly but it works!

Indeed it does work,  almost doubles the range of my remote.

The actual receiver is in the CCM (Command and Control Module), which it forms a small part of. It is a black plastic cased module located behind the glove box, with three socket facing towards you once you drop the glove box off its support brackets. I don't think it has an external antenna, hence the plastic case to allow the remote signal to get into the receiver.

If I'm right, its location means that its reception range might be reduced by the contents of the glove box.

It seems to work at a longer range when you are higher than  the car,   like  from an upstairs window .
