TD AUTOBOX CONCERNS

I have a really nice 1998 2.5td auto ghia X which has developed a problem and i wondered if anybody could assist me.
Car starts lovely, goes into drive lovely, but when slowing down quickly to stopping, then i have no drive for about 20/seconds or more.
I put the gearchange through into 1,2,3, d, n, r etc (but not neccessarily in that order) then drive comes back.
Also, when doing about 75-80mph and then putting my
boot down, the engine picks up revs, and the box feels like it's slipping until i sort of 'blip-feather' the gas pedal then drive feels like its picking up.
Levels have been checked and seem normal
any ideas please
