24v engine stops/loc. PATS Ctr. Module? (SOLVED!)

Some time ago my 96' Cossie died during a run and the PATS LED flashed my eyes. At that time I was not aware about the possibility to read error codes by means of the LED, and I then thought it was the key transponder. After 15 minutes the car started and I got home. Bought a new key from the FMC dealer and was confident about driving the car again. But the problem has showed up several times later and now I've learned about PATS from the site (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm) and this forum. The error code is "1.6 -Faulty link between PATS module and EECV - Go to main dealer" No way I'll wisit any other department at the dealer apart from the parts department! So the dashboard is now removed for fault finding. The ECU plug and wiring looks ok - and my next challenge is to find the PATS Control Module... The workshop manual (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/antitheft/antitheftdesc.p df) indicates that it could be found on the left side in the engine compartment, under the windscreen (it's a left hand drive!)! I hope anybody on this forum has some know-how about this!? Edit: "SOLVED!"

Thanks for the tip, but I tried to e-mail Kimi last night, but the message came back with an error message. I have sent him a PM, but I hope there might be someone who could help me a bit tonight due to a planned trip with the car tomorrow. I'll guess we can't expect Kimi to log on to the forum every day just in case someone need his know-how;)

Just a thought, you wouldn't have a water leak that may be getting into the PATS or the EECV ?

Thanks for your help guys, but still no joy The car left the factory in August 1995 and on this one the PATS do not disable the starter, only the enginge management. In other words - the engine turns, but will not fire. The PATS LED still flashes the code "1.6", even with the EEC V and the CCM disconnected So - where on earth (or car) is the #"¤"#%@£@ PATS Control Module?

i had the same error and the same symptoms (on a 95 cossie). it was also draining the battery. as jonnycab said, it was water coming through from under the battery, and into CCM/EECV. Replaced both with second hand units, and sealed the hole, all is well again (touch wood). check them for damp (you can take the CCM apart and check the board for water damage) and replace. i think you would get the error code if you disconnected them, anyway.... hth

Finally I bit the bullet, parked wifey and our (almost) newborn twins at mother-in-law-residence and then found time to strip down the battery side fusebox. As expected there was damp inside. It's likely due to my own stupidity/forgetfulness this occured: One of the attachment screws did break the last time I did the fusebox (4-5 years ago?) and I did not fix it at that time. As far as I can tell this screw puts a strain on the two fusebox halfs and thus helps sealing the box. Shame on me The symptoms have been various and increased: 1-Alarm went on sometimes, more often over time. First time for over 1 year ago (disconnected the bonnet switch to avoid this) 2-Interior lights behaviour strange, more often over time (irritating me, but could live with that as well) 3-Engine stopping suddenly, and would not start until 15 minutes or not at all. PATS LED flashing code 1-6.(Relatively unpractical, had to act) Have still not found the PATS Control Module, but the car has run fine for 2 weeks now and hopefully will continue with that from now on. Pictures has been taken and will be sendt to site admin soon!
