steering moan??

when reversing there is a deep groaning type sound coming from the front of the car, on and near full lock. had tracking checked  and thats fine, tyres are fine and as far as i can see there are no failed joints etc. Has anybody any ideas?

Have you checked the power steering fluid level ?....& is it still a nice red colour ?
 
Also, could be the power steering pump trying to tell you that it's had enough  Smiley

If it is being held on full lock for more than a second or two it will 'groan' and it does the seals no good whatsover !!

On full lock it will make some noise and slight judder at the wheel, its the pump trying to push the rack beyond its limit.  
 
I also once had a Granada emit a groan from the actual metal to metal stops for the lock limits, but only whilst the car was moving. A little grease on the faces stops the noise for a while, until it washes off.

thats common on all power steering, even my discovery does it. Dont know if it the same on the scorpio but my disco has steering limit stops that are adjustable.?
