cracked inlet manifold

Hello, First let me say hello to this great Scorpio community. I already had the pleasure of meeting some of you on the mailing list regarding a question about gearbox oil. I'm the owner of a very recently purchased '98 2.3 which is in great condition, except for a (so I learned) quite common problem with the 2.3 engine. It's got a cracked inlet manifold. My questions are: -Provided that I'm an medium skilled DIY mecanic. How straightforward would it be to replace it? Would the job be better suited for a professional garage? -Is it true that these manifolds are quite rare? -Perhaps I didn't search hard enough, but I wasn't able to find the relevant part of the repair manual on the website. Is there a part that describes this operation? thanks in advance

The only instructions for the inlet manifold replacement can be found here..... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engines/dohc2_3/2300CylHdRnew.pdf They are quite rare second hand but not impossible to find (try Ebay). New ones are in the region of £280 Welcome to the site

Just a thought.......have you considered trying to repair it ?....it's a cheaper option As long as the split isn't too large then it can be done (I've done it). I used a hot knife to seal the split inside & out, & then patched it up inside & out with some JB Weld & then added Quick Steel over the top to give it extra strength. That was 8 months ago & it's still holding strong after 16K miles Tip..... make sure the manifold is roughened up with heavy grade sand paper & then thoroughly cleaned of grease & dirt before you apply the JB Weld, Quick Steel etc
