Every time I start my Scorp there is a clonk which seems to come from in front of the driver in the engine bay She always fires first time, as soon as you turn the key & it feels like a small explosion....as though it fires too quick....if that makes sense Checked the engine mounting bushes & they look good as new..... ....anyone experienced this phenomena before ?

hi jc....yes a similer thing happened to me a few years back...everytime i started my mk2 granada...there was a clonking sound...i traced it to the starter motor...so i put in another one...problem solved....but i wanted to know what it was that was causing the clonk....to cut a long story short....it was the starter solinoid..part of the winding had broken under the plastic cover...just needed re-soldering....but the mk2 was ok after i changed the starter...good luck..regards den.

Could it be a part of your downpipe hitting the body as it goes from the bulkhead to the floorpan.A split exhaust mounting rubber at the front of the system may cause it to move when the engine is cranking ? Just a thought

Tons...I've checked the exhaust downpipe & it's not hitting the body work, although it does sound like something hitting something Joe....the starter motor theory sounds interesting, as it does sound as though it's coming from that area. Will need investigating Thanks for the suggestions

hi jc, your most welcome.hope you find the problem asap....and its easy to put right and not going to cost you very much ...please let us know what it was.regards den...ps...although it was a broken wire with the solinoid i think what was happening was the solinoid was juddering and not engaging properly due to the broken wire within..anyway..good luck.

Is it an automatic? Sometimes the 'park' can drop in fully on starting. Try starting in 'N' and see if the noise is still there.
