It is the bit which is not on the door, the plate with a pin or peg in the bottom centre of the boot lip. 1. Check the latch in the boot lid - you should be able to flip the moving fork part to the locked position with your finger tip and it should stay there until released by pushing the open button. If that works try adjusting the lock plate. 2. I think wrapping a few layers of insulation tape on the pin cures a problem, I'm not sure which problem, but it might be your problem. 3. If the lid releases itself randomly, that might be due to rain travelling along the boot release button and shorting the release contacts out. It was a common problem on the Granada.

When this happened to mine it was a broken gear in the latch motor, it had jammed in the unlock position. Removing the motor sorted it till I got another, just meant I had to use the key to unlock the boot.

| Have you tried the above? If it doesn't do as Harry said then you need to look behind the panel in the lid to see what the problem is.
