Mot failure on CO2 Level

Can't believe it, checked everything I could and the only thing it failed on was emissions. The reading says failure at =0.35 on CO% should be <=0.30. However the tester also commented that the temp gauge was not working, but it works fine, could it just be the engine was so cold (24/12/07) that the CO was a bit up because of this, or can anyone give me a quick fix?

Hello Carmow. When I took mine to be tested (by a mate of mine) knowing that I did quite a few short runs, he put the old measuring thingy up the pipe and sat with his foot on the loud pedal to get everything nice and hot and clear out the pipe I stood there and watched the computer readout finally settle down to what it should read. Had he not done this, he said it would give a false reading so perhaps had your man done the same, things might be different. All the best. Trev.

Hi carmow, you can get fuel additives to put in the petrol to help lower emissions, think I used a Wynns one, can't remember what it's called but Halfords or any motor factor should sell something similar. Another good trick is to take the car for a good blast up the motorway (Italian tune up!!) before going for the test, helps clear everything out and gets it up to temperature. Three mots ago, my mums car was borderline on emissions. I've done this with her car (not a Scorpio) for the last couple of years and it's passed okay. Cheers Jim

Its worth giving it a good run up the motorway just prior to dropping it off for an mot, it takes a wee while for the cats to get up to optimum temp
