Dont know where to start with this one,the turbo has an on /off characteristic at the moment, it fits the description of 'Diesel loses power' on the web site but ,as far as i can see , does not have a Maf or Map sensor, so i dont know what controls the turbo.Have not had the car 1 month yet and have so far done oil change and oil filter , air filter and put some anti-freeze in it, engine code is SCC,idle seems a littlle high also(just under 1000rpm when hot) greatful for any replies, phil.

the turbo works of the exhaust, the gases spin a turbine in the turbo which also spin a compressor also with in the turbo, the air inled it connect ed to the compressor side of the turbo, follow the pipe from the airbox and it will lead you to the turbo  Smiley

the engine you have is the earlier one, same as mine, 115bhp, and as you say no maf. a year later ford put in a 125bhp engine with a maf etc. you can adjust the idle speed via the fuel pump, instructions are in the servicing bit somewhere.
also, be wary of the belt tensioner and crank shaft pulley, they're not expensive to buy and fit yourself but they do seem prone to failure....

thanks matt ,what i'm really interested in is what controls the turbo, other components such as an actuator and a wastgate, i assume the actuator turns it on and off cos the exhaust gases bypass it sometimes, but what controls the actuator. The wastegate i have not got a clue about.Cheeckyboy, yes the belt is cracking up,thats the next job!cheers, phil.

its not a too difficult job, just a bit time consuming moving stuff out the way, if you need to change the crank pulley its done up to about 150lb so its advisable to sleeve your torque wrench with a length of scaffold tube to get the leverage....
