I have been trying to buy a secondhand alternator for my 1998 TD without success. In fact my alternator works lovely, its just that the outer casing is cracked and it seems that the alternator is held in place by a wing and a prayer, plus the tension of the belt Lucas the thieves want 165 plus 40 squid cos of damaged casing..does anybody have any idea's thanks

keep trying ebay, i managed to get one on there for 2.99 + 10 quid postage. you could try part search, they try the breakers for you and you just wait for the phone calls. the vm engine was also used in some rovers, cherokees and discovery's, but whether they use the same alternator i dont know could you weld the casing?

if you do strip it i'd be interested in the rear seat base or just the cover if its raven leather. pssst, dont mention steve savill (spikes) to loudly on here, lots on here dont like him, personally i get on well with him and always get a good deal if you have the time etc you could possibly re wind an alternator....
