Steering column creak

I've noticed recently that when stationary or going very slow & turning the steering wheel there is a creaking noise which can be heard & felt through the steering wheel (worse when turning the wheel slowly) & seems to be coming from the steering column It doesn't notice when driving at normal speeds, just when stationary or at very low speed. I can't hear it outside the car, just inside. I don't think it's anything in the suspension/steering resonating up the column, although it's always a possibility I suppose The U/J linkage that joins the rack is fine - well it was when I replaced the rack a couple of months back, but I'm wondering about the U/J on the column inside the car ?....hmm Anyone had the same problem or got any pointers ?

Could be the bush at the top of the column which gets a bit dry . Take the covers off and you will see it . Perhaps a small spray of some silicone will cure it for you .

Aaaand of course you have checked the hydraulic oil level on the power steering? Makes funny noises when running on low oil Also if there is air in the system, that can make noises. To fix that, take of the cork from the reservoir, with engine running, turn the wheels from one side to the other a few times.

Oh well, it was worth a shot - fixed my creaking once. Happy hunting. btw. If all else fails, leave the Dragon back home. You'll be amazed to find out how silent the car is! x 3

Snoopy, I've taken the covers off but can't see any rubber bush at the top of the column. The only rubber I can see is the seal at the bottom where the column goes through the bulkhead. Anyway, I gave the whole column a liberal dose of silicone spray & the creaking seems to have stopped, so maybe I hit the right spot .....lets hope it lasts .....cheers Dave Pappa, it's a creaking noise, not a moaning noise .....
