While the lamp's on it won't deploy, it'll also fail an MOT if the airbag or ABS lamps flickers on during the test Mine started doing this on rough roads, was the coil spring connector behind the steering wheel

Details of the system are HERE. To get to the 'torx' screws mentioned you need to turn the wheel from lock to lock in order to get access under the wheel. Lift the front of the car DON'T strain the power steering rack. The 'clock spring' details are HERE.

Air bag light is not an MOT fail item, ABS warning lamp is.

Howdy! Have a look under your seat. If there is a bad connection to the seatbelt tightening system, this will popup the light as well. Believe me, if you don't, disconnect the lead under the seat and see the light illuminate until the lead is connected again. Been there. Have also disconnected a lead to the passenger side airbag accidentally while been poking my fingers inside the dash. Seen the airbag light give a two blink indicator of a failure. On the passenger side, there are two airbag leads and they don't usually come off just like that. Also possible to be exactly as TiberiuS said. And many other things as well...

| That's strange, a mate of mine had his Mondeo failed last year because the airbag light flickered on during the test

You may have fixed this by now, but when I had the airbag light on last year it was the connector in the steering wheel that had come disconnected - not uncommon I understand. As someone has previously mention in this thread, removing the air bag from the steering wheel will show you this connector. Refit the connector, but be careful with the airbag assembly while removed, it can deploy if handled roughly.

| You need to disconnect the battery for half an hour before taking out the airbag, any spikes in the supply or shocks can make it deploy..... Hth Pete

Hi, When this happened on my 24v it was a module situated under the drivers footwell it is blac lies horizontal under the metal shelf it is held in place by a metal clip. The part normally costs £10 secondhand or £25 new from Ford. Regards Grimreaper
