With rear wheels jacked up should they both move when turned by hand, if so as it has TC fitted should it be the same direction or as with normal diff one forward and one back? Car is P reg Cosworth. Also what size Allan key/torx for the diff filler?

one should turn clockwise and the other anti clockwise, unless its turned from the prop, then either one or both wheels will turn in the same direction

the tc is electronic, so unless you have the car in gear and running it shouldn't make any difference

its not as hard as you think, the drive shafts can be unbolted from the hub on the diff, its only held to the subframe by a couple of bolts if i remember correctly..

Torx and allen keys are two different things, you'll need a proper torx bit for it. I think you're confused with an LSD, the diff on the standard 24v is just a normal, non locking type.

Hi Tiberius, thanks for input, but still none the wiser as to what should happen with both wheels off the ground. I know big difference between the keys, orginally thought it was torx but having cleaned it is is a hex tried 3/8 which seemed snug fit but it is solid, will bathe it in penetrating oil and try again, would be nice to know if thre is any oil at all before going down the change diff route. All input welcome.

Hi. The diff is working right, with both wheels off of the ground, when you move one, the other one should move in the opposite direction because the driveshaft output is effectively locked. Now if you lower the 'other' wheel to the ground and then turn your wheel again, providing the car isn't in park and you have big muscles ( ), you'll then be turning the gearbox/engine You can get torx style allen keys, I have a set and there's nothing like giving one a good whack with a hammer to remove stubborn bolts liuke the ones holding the rear bumper Regards, Bruce.

Hi Bruce Thanks for reply again, from what you say about movement it seems that I DO have a problem, i.e when I rotate one wheel (with both off the ground) nothing happens to the other one except maybe a twitch to me that means it is goosed but happy to be proved wrong
