problem when braking

If I'm slowly braking, thus pressing the pedal really slow, the whole car starts shaking like it's going to blow ... if I slam the brakes then it's okay ... I don't understand what can do this.

I see also that this website needs help ... I'm offering free, unlimited traffic hosting.

I've got a similar problem with my TD estate, doesn't judder when braking at very slow speeds or under heavy braking but does it when braking lightly. I replaced rear discs as I suspected one of them might be warped due to a stuck handbrake lever. The fronts look very new so I don't think it's them although it's not unheard of to buy a new warped disc!
I had a look at my front wishbone bushes today. I can move the rear bush much more on my car than I can do on the spares car when levering against the central bolt with a large screwdriver. This movement is magnified quite considerably when it gets to the road wheels and I think that this is the problem of the juddering. I'm planning to swap wishbones from the spares car tomorrow so I'll let you know if it cures the shudder   Smiley

Can I suggest you just try the same thing which sorted my judder problem out?

It worked for me, it might work for you....

Try three hard stops in succession, such that it triggers the ABS. Take the speed up to 80mph as quickly as possible, then brake as hard as possible - repeat two more times, with the minimum time possible between, so the brakes get good and hot, but do not come to a complete stop with the brakes still hot.  Let them cool down on the move.

It is supposed to clean the brake pad material off the disks face and relieve the tension in the in the casting of the disks which causes them to run out of true - both reputed to cause the judder.

Well I went out to change the wishbones today and decided to swap the front discs and pads over first. This cured the braking problem completely  Smiley The discs & pads on the car looked brand new so I can only assume one of the discs was warped.

Discs can warp soon after fitting, especially if they are budget ones & are not bedded in lightly  Smiley

I've always had a problem with Apec discs (as cheap as they get), in that they seem to warp very quickly when fitted to the front of a 2.0/2.3 Scorp, but when fitted to a MK1/2 Mondeo, they seem fine  Huh

Both cars use the same size discs, but with the Scorp being a heavier car, then they obviously aren't heavy duty enough  Wink.....the last set of discs & pads I fitted were Lucas & I've had no braking problems with those. I've also used Mintex (from Halfords) & they've been good as gold as well  Smiley
