Newbie here - few probs need help with

Hi all I recently bought a Ultima estate, really happy with the car, bought it for a good price knowing that there was some work that needed doing. The known problems are nothing major and I've been plodding through the jobs as and when time has allowed However, a couple of new issues have arisen that I'm in need of some advice about Firstly, the bonnet catch - it's decided that it doesn't want to open, the lever under the dash has broke off (was like it when I got the car) and was working ok but now it feels like it's at full pull (and so can't be pulled any more) and so now I can't get the bonnet open - any ideas? Secondly, driving home yesterday a knocking sound started, it sounds like it's coming from rear near side and eases when I take my foot off the accelerator Cheers Darren
