Wow just been throught this (see my posts) Is the stick very smooth to move? if so I would look underneath at the linkage, several weak points, check all the clips are holding the lingage together/on pivot points. There are two rods and a crank, the crnak ism ounted on a bracket that sometime fractures or in my case the bottom rod which is a ball joint had seized causing the bracket bottom to snap. repalced with new crnak and all well. If it is this it can be done without removing anything Just!!!

If you remove the trim around the gear stick you should be able to locate the fixing/holding mechanism . I have not actuallt seen the manual version and there is nothing in the Workshop manual to tell us how to do it. Basically you are having to look at the remote gear changing linkage ... which stays in the car when the gear box is removed. As to the large flat forging that has broken is it possible to post a picture .. it tells a thousand words. Have a look at THIS (paras18 & 19) and see if it explains it a little more... the whole of the workshop manual for the MT75 gearbox is HERE HTH
