Strange oil leak

Hi all. Could someone shine some light on this for me.
I bought my Scorpio 2.9i and it was fine, no leaks the car is very well looked after.

Little drives there is no problem but after driving for half an hour or more oil comes from what looks like where the gear box attaches to the engine.

Ive checked the levels and they seem ok except the engine oil is a little high. Is there a seal or gasget or plug somewhere above that might be affected by the presure, like a dump valve or something like that or have i been stitched up and have to remove the gear box and replace the gasget.
Thanks jim

Could one of two seals... there is one on the engine where the crank exits and there is one on the gearbox where the shaft enters the gearbox ,You don't say which engine it is other than 2.9 but the engine and gear box manuals are on the main site....

Hi i have a 24v cossie and also have a oil leak which drips of the bell housing

it only does it after about 20 mins driving

i put the car up on my ramp to check on it and found that was leaking from the front crank seal and running back along the sump and dripping off the bell housing

worth drying it off and running it and look for fresh oil

Thanks TTPmaverick. Did you have to remove the crank shaft to replace seal? and if so was it a hard job, as ive done loads of DIY mechanics jobs over the years but never a crank.

You don't usually have to remove the crank to replace it's seals; often they're part of another assembly which is much easier to remove (e.g. timing case if front seal on a V6).

You cannot buy the manual as there was never one published , which is why FORD ( Europe) gave us the TIS disc and permissions to publish it in PDF format on our site... The WHOLE of the manual is one there .... just need to look around... Best way is use the search engine on the INDEX PAGE

don't even think about printing it out,  its about 1400 pages from memory ( and thats failing with age )

Hi Jim.
You mention that the engine oil level is high. Has it gone up and the gearbox level gone down? That's what happened on our 2.9 and it was the throttle valve on the side of the box. The diaphragm had gone and it was sucking oil out of the box and depositing it in the engine. There's my old thread about it somewhere. If it is that, I suppose some could be leaking from the pipe en route.
