NEW OWNER - 24V Saloon

Hello, I´m a recent owner of a 24V located in Lisbon - Portugal. PRODUCTION DATE IS 30-11-1995 and delivery date 13-2-1996. (I picked up the car 13-2-2008 )
It´s a saloon, ghia (highest equipment designation here, equals ultima in GB but with more equipment still)

To give you an heads up there are only 4 total in the territory (Ford showed me the registrations) and I know no one that ownes ( or wants to ) a scorpio or granada. bottom line, everybody hates them here.

I already checked on the site for all of this problems, but still I would like to have someone opinion on them as well, since English is not my mothertonge.

Here goes a list of MY problems so far:

1-Car sometimes does not start (3 times). lights, AC,
horn, windows work perfect and battery is new.
makes a sound: tic, tic, tic, from the starter I supose.
Previous owner said HE had somer problem but He
took the car to an "alley" mechanic and "resolved it"

2-honey color transmission fluid, 2sec to engage reverse
the painfull sound of torque convertor (the stripes in
the ground kinda noise)but all works effectively in
terms of autobox. I suspect the gearbox as never
seen an oil change from day one altough the car as
service manual and was previous owned by the
president of AUTOEUROPA (Ford plant in Portugal).

3-The remote...IT DOES NOT PROGRAM! it does and
automaticaly resets no matter what i do regarding to
the way of doing it (I read posts, manual, etc, etc).
closes the door once or twice and then goes off in
   hollydays...(new bats, of course)

4-Keys. Very cool problem...the official keys I got, red,
black, with flashlight dont open the trunk or left side
door(driver) but the corner shop copy key does!

5- somehow my rear speakers are blown! strange white
noise coming out as well as music.

6-The sunroof. jammed. When I saw the car for the 1st
time it opened... after a 3 hour drive back to Lisbon its
stuck. Not happy with that, Its letting litters of water
inside the thingypit and its rusty in the few parts I still
can see from the inside of the car.

7-steering whell system. Its leaking fluid...

So after this long post I feel relieved to let it all out since no one listens to my problems here!

Have a great week and drive safe (but fast)

1) try cleaning the maf it works wonders definately change the box oil and filter
2)remote re programe it put key in ignition turn to the 1 position 4 times till you hear the beep then press the unlock button you should hear another beep the remote is now programmed if it still resets its self try cleaning all the contacts on the circuit board with a pencil eraser gently dont keep pressing the remote more than 10 times as this will reset it and produce the faults your having .
3)my keys do the same must be a quirk of the car
4) change the rear speakers they are not very good quality
5)sunroof i dont know about aint got one
6) find the leak keep some fluid with you in the car and keep topping it up

thats the only advice i can give hope it helps you i,v only had my scorpio for 6 weeks but have discovered quite a lot having my auto box  fluid changed this week also as i had some slippage and delay selecting reverse and drive and strange changes when the fluid is hot excellent when cold   good luck    Grin

Cheers stevie, I´ll take care of the auto box issues asap.
Regarding the remote, I´ve done all of those items posted by you allready... I´ll go deeper in the subject when I have time and RE-try.

What "extras" do you have compared to an Ultima?

Yes, it comes with the right passenger seat full electical and heated as weel as the headlamp washers standard. It also came in a previous life with a parking sensor and the driver sun visor with light (not instaled anymore) . this is the 96 version and it was produced in 30-11-95. the ULTIMA does not exist in Portugal, the equivalent is the GHIA. note that we did not have the granada as weel, it was a scorpio and the top equipment was also the ghia.
