Oil change on neglected Scorp

Hi Chaps,

My £200 scorp has been sorely neglected on the service front ( not by me ! )  and I think there is a lazy tappet .

Do I just use one of the engine cleaners and change the oil, or just do a series of oil changes with cheap oil to get the engine clean and healthy?

Also what oil shoudl a 12v br run on 20/50 , 10/40 etc, dino, semi syn, or fully syn.

I do like to change oil every 3k to 5k, so perhaps fully syn is a waste.

Semi Synthetic 10/40 will do fine and change the filter at regular intervals .
One of the proprietiry oil flushing agents will not do any harm. The noisy tappet should quieten down when you have good oil in there .

I use Comma 10/40 all year round unlesss the weather gets very hot and I change it for 20/50.
I change the oil and filter every 3K .It is relatively cheap to do.

I do so: I 1-use "Clearing" oil with the pure filter.
Quantity of repetitions of procedure - to plum of "Clearing" oil in the pure state.
2 I Apply "Working" oil on a season with replacement through 5000 km.
Result - velvet work of the engine. Good luck.

Use a cleaner first for a while, then change the oil, after you have done a few hundred miles it will be dirty again,so another change is due. This could happen twice or more depending upon the extent of previous neglect. As Snoopy says 10w30 is the correct grade for your engine. If the tappet(s) dont quieten you may prefer to live with it,because it,s heads off to get em out.

Sooo using the cleaner on a neglected engine wont free up too much gunk and destroy the engine then ... ?

No, because it "should" get caught by the filter.

How do.I use 10/40 semi (valvoline) in my 12 valve & it seems to like it  Smiley. When i first got the car i used an engine cleaner which seemed to do exactly what it said on the tin.Havent needed to use it since & change my oil every 5000 miles.I also had a noisy intermittent tappet which didnt get any better with oil changes, but seemed to dissapear after a trip home from the midlands meet turned into the cannon ball run  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes (boys will be boys)  Grin Grin Grin
