idle speed after Idle air control valve fitted.

Hi All

I have fitted a new Idle air control valve to my 12v 2.9 ultima as when a star test was done it reported code 12 Sadidle speed control motor or air bypass not controlling idle properly). im not getting any other codes.

i am getting bad fuel consumption hence reason for original scan! Problem now is since fitting new valve the idle speed now varies from 1000 to 15000 revs. sometimes it will drop to 800 but then goes straight back up!

Im no mechanic so any help would be appriciated!
Thanks
Lee

I really hope you mean 1500  Roll Eyes

You could try doing a full reset (disconnect the battery for half an hour or so).
The car will run lumpy for a few miles after. Remember to have the radio code handy, as you will need to re-enter it afterwards.

You beat me to it Tin tin.If that isnt the case then do as Kjetil suggests.Dissconect the battery for an hour then re fit.The car will revert back to factory settings.Just out of curiosity how bad is your economy ?

hi all

thanks for your replys

i will try the battery diconnect and see if that helps,

to answer your question Tons_of_Fun, it is bad, this was the reason i started trying to get it sorted.

on a £60 - £65 fill up, im getting around 150 - 160 miles around town, and i dont boot it, checking the mpg after states 11.4 mpg

i did a 75 mile run yesterday keeping her at a steady 60 mph, when i got home i checked the mpg and it stated 17mpg, i reset the mpg before going.

Again, thanks to everyone trying to help.
