| Just tried the link all is there, look at the menu on the right hand side fault may be something simple. When I bought my Cossie the ABS/TC lights came on over 15mph, fault code was ABS pump, changed with used one and no problems now. Garage price £1000+ including pump, my price £50 all in.

Ahh yes, the good old 'remove the lamp' MOT fix. I've been there, mucho fun to find an empty bulb holder when you've just spent an hour ripping the dash to bits... Most likely the ABS ECU if it's the earlier Teves type, it's normally that bit that's at fault. The pump unit is pretty reliable, it's the ECU underneath that fails. But try the cheaper stuff first before you go for a new ECU. And no, you don't want to know the cost of a new ECU/pump unit Normally when the light comes on at 15mph it's a fault in the unit, if the light is on all the time then it's likely a dead wheel sensor or something. AFAIK (it's a while since I did it), you can't read the ABS codes through the OBD port, you need a reader that's compatible with the ABS, some garages will read ABS codes. Either drop in another one or get yours fixed for (around £100, probably cheaper to get another 2nd hand and take a chance). Regards, Bruce.

| You can read the ABS codes through the OBD port, with the right lead. Admittedly it’s unlikely the ABS works as the light has been doctored, but have you tested it? Find somewhere you can safely brake hard and see if the wheels lock or if the ABS works you’ll get a pulsing through the brake pedal. Dave

I suppose my previous post was open to interpretation, what I meant was the light has probably been doctored because the ABS doesn't work. If the ABS isn't working, I doubt (but don't know) that fixing the light will make any difference. That is to say, if the ABS doesn’t work now I don’t think it will work when you fix the light.

| Hi Dave. That's strange, I can't pull ABS codes with my Elmscan, tried a couple of cars with Teves systems now Do you just pull them along with regular fault codes or is there something else to it? Regards, Bruce.

| Cheers Andrew. With the Elmscan it gives you a list of ECUs detected and asks you to choose which to connect to, like maybe engine and transmission ECUs. I remember with the 24v I looked at a few months back (had the laptop with me so tried the OBD), it gave a DTC for immobilser input or something and all the live sensor data was there but nothing I could see about ABS. Regards, Bruce.

hi hullad...yes i see....could be a wheel sensor playing up causing the light to come on at speeds of 15mph and above....the light in my daughters ultima dont come on when the ignition is switched on....im going to look at some fuses tomorrow..and if that fails im going to have to take out the instrument cluster..thing is it dont look as though anything has ever been touched with the wood effect suround or the clocks...will find out soon enough....good luck in finding your problem...regards den. .

hi the abs on inside the cluster itself you have to take it all apart but beware the abs light is not changable it is a lcd light and is part of the unit itself so you will need to by a new cluster i got mine for 45 quid from a place in manchester
