FOB - Remote control trouble-shooting

I have read and followed the remote trouble-shooting guide. I get all the confirmation beeps and managed to reprogram the remote but it will only open. It does not lock the car or open the boot. I have cleaned the contacts inside, but no luck either. I think it comes down to a faulty fob. What do you guys think?

HI scorpio_man, Thanks for your reply. I did read the repair page (that's how I got to re-program it). What I didn't try yet is the electrically conductive coating because I could not find where to buy it...

hi there you could also try some very small bits of tin foil. you need to watch either way, that the repair doesn't work lose and shorts the remote battery out. imo, the your best option is a new (s/hand) remote from ebay. hth

That's a great idea! I have cut small squares of kitchen foil, put a tinny amount of general-purpose glue on them and glue them onto the contacts. Works great! Let's see how long it lasts... if not, second hand it is. Thanks a lot!

I did this recently to my remote and it's worked quite well. Don't quite get a good distance on it though and that's with new batteries. BTW - was total closure and opening only an option on some cars? Doesn't appear to work on mine

Actually...regard key-fob programming...there seems to be one or two different methods, depending on the vehicle. I understand the "handbook method" maybe incorrect, but for my scorp.....all I have to do is... 1. Insert ignition key 2. Turn to position 1 3. Press unlock on the key-fob. Ping!! that's it....job done Is this different for others?

From memory mine requires (rapid) three on two off to position I, which then produces a bong. Then more bongs as I press unlock on each remote.

As previously stated on MANY occassions the method in the handbook seems to work for some early versions of the Scorpio.. BOTH methods worked for me on mine ... ALthough the key method as described on the Web site is the ONLY way to programme more than one key .
