Autobox problem ?

Bit difficult to explain this one, but I'm sure someone will know what I'm talking about  Wink

It only happens when it has been very cold overnight.....

When you start the car & select reverse, it takes an age to go in & when it does finally go in (about 5 seconds) it thumps in & then the engine feels like it's running on 2 cylinders  Huh

The only way to make it all better  Roll Eyes is to restart the car, sometimes twice or thrice....then all is fine again.

The same thing happened last winter, but wasn't as bad.

It defo seems like a cold temperature issue  Undecided

Must also add, that when this happens, there is a strong smell of petrol  Huh

The autobox oil level is fine, it doesn't smell bad & the colour is an acceptable reddish/light brown colour  Smiley

Dave2302 posted something about it a while back, but I can't manage to search his posts at the moment.

Afraid not, other than it's in the auto box
Have a look here at the box overhaul
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/autotrans.htm

Doing a search in the pdf for solenoid didn't come up with that description but found several solenoids.

It's not been a significant problem with mine for the past couple of years as long as I park facing out in cold weather, but more of a worry in your job.

Try a pm to Dave2302, he comes on here now & then.

Well if it's inside the box, then I'm just gonna hope that the weather warms up soon & the problem goes away again until next winter  Smiley
