boot lid leaking
« on: Apr 30th, 2008, 12:43pm »

When i open the boot lid (its a  2.3) after its been raining, water pours out of either side at base where the liner and light section join...i cant see how water is getting into that section..doesnt make any sense to me

apart from drenching everything in the boot i am concerned that water is retained in the boot section and will start a rust issue
any ideas or feedback would be appreciated

We had a similar discussion recently and the upshot was that due to the design of the boot lid, when it's fully open,   the rain water drips into the boot     ( and down the back of your neck  Tongue)    from the lower  bootlid  edge.

mr.-floppy.
I have several stretched Scorps on funeral work,we wash them all the time because it,s always raining ! On opening the boot lid water always trickles out of the corners.I have never had one that did'nt and there is not a rust problem even on saloons that I have dismantled for spares.Worry not !

pedropedro.
I just had a look on one of mine, you can insert a thin feeler between the boot and the light strip, obviously that is the water ingress point. It does'nt do any harm and drips onto the front edge of the bumper, not into the boot.

I know some people in thepast have removed the light strip and placed a smal silicone bead arount it with clear sealant to stop it happening. but as to how sucessfulit all is I don't know . ALL the scorpios I have seen do it . BAD design really .
Good luck.

I managed to fix this problem partially. If you look under boot, you'll see 4 stamps in the metal work which are covered. I took a big nail and a hammer and punched them through. Now when the boot is closed the water drips out through the holes.

ah now getting somewhere..yesterday i looked at that area and found one of the stamps actually had a blanking plug that when I removed water came out of

I then prodded the other indents thinking they were maybe blocked with underseal or similar..why did they put those x4 stamps there Huh  put moemy they are drainage holes and for some reason didnt get processed in production

why else would there be the stamps?? john

Exactly the same thought i had, now most water goes out, when opening the boot after a heavy rain it only drips a bit. I always thought it was a manufacturing defect, but i have it on all my 3 scorps  Tongue

I am sure it was an oversight not opening those indents ..they had to be on the drawing board for water drainage........why else go to trouble to make a specifically placed stamp mark

and why is one of them open with a plastic blanking plug at least on mine?

I will open them up when weather is better ...glad I found some conclusion everyone saying thats the norm with scorps which it is but should be corrected

tks john
