Electrical problem with 95. 2.5TDi

Have owned the car for over 10 years, have had a regular problem with having to renew the alternator every two years, the car would not start all the dials would go haywire and click click when key turned, Have just had a new heavy duty battery and alternator fit two months ago,but same problem of the battery discharging, Auto Electrics guy cant find a reason why and another customer in shop today said he was having same problems intermitinly, HELP

Hi. Surely it's not hard for him to put an ammeter on and pull fuses so he can at least tell you what area the drain is in? Could be any of a thousand things draining the battery, you really need to know if there's a static drain and on what circuit it is, then people can help more (wiring diagrams are somewhere, somebody should have them). There was once a recall on the Mondeo with a faulty bootlight switch draining the battery over time, switch would 'leak' current, killing the battery after a year or 2...things like this do happen although it's almost impossible to guess where the fault comes from unless you have some info. The later diesels had a higher rated alternator fitted as the earlier one really wasn't up to the job. You can retrofit the new alternator but you'll need to change the bracket and oil/vacuum pipes as the pump is now mounted in front of the alternator rather than behind. Darren

as sector said, the original was 75amp and the later one was 120 or might've been 125....
