Our Car is having a moody week

Hi all, I am new here, so please forgive me if I get a bit long winded, but I am going to try to give all important info. We bought a Ford Scorpio Ultima 1996 model about 3 years ago. My husband wanted to get an automatic for me, as I am physically unable to drive a clutch vehicle. This car has been so very good to us and extremely reliable....no major works have ever been needed only minor things here and there. My husbands a seasoned mechanic, but not very familiar at all with a Scorpio. When we bought this car there was only one key..a black one with a red dot on the top.This key would only lock or unlock the car from the passenger side, never the driver side. In the last month the lock on the passenger side seemed to stick a bit, and not respond at all to the key. until it was good and ready to let us in. The other day my husband needed to go somewhere, keep in mind we are as far out in the countryside as it gets, far from most other signs of life, save the few sheep around. Anyway...the car refused to allow him entry..and kept tightly locked no response at all to the key.....hours later he is still trying to get in and it still refused him entry. Well his leaving was a vital thing so he bgan seeking other methods of entry such as unlock the boot, as the key did still work there. We then tried to get the back seats to fold down to crawl theough the trunk..to no avail as they weren't budging. So his next plan was to take out the speakers to try and slip my smaller arm through and push the release button to fold the seats down....to no avail...eventually Im not sure how...he got the seats down.....and went to the front put his key in and suddenly the horn went off.....the doors refused to open even with the key in the ignition! It's many hours later now and we tried to pop the bonnet to maybe take our battery out and reset the cars system.....but though it popped it wouldnt actually open...just stayed part open part closed..nothing we did would budge it open and we couldnt find the latch under the bonnet to try and complete opening it....which was very odd as we never had that trouble before.Well needless to say we have given up and the car is still fort knox, sadly here we sit stranded on a hill surrounded by beautiful views and sheep.Any ideas or suggestions would surely be appreciated.

sounds like the doors are dead locked. i take it you don't have a remote? so, the key only works (now sometimes) in the pass door lock. the key/lock will be worn. get a can on wd40 and using the straw, spray lots into the door lock (mind some will come back out and down the side of the door). leave for 5 minutes and then try and unlock the doors. repeat if necessary. you need to do this as disconnecting the battery won't work against the dead locks.
re the bonnet handle. it's just to the right of the ford sign when popped. hopefully it's not broken off the front grille.

My husband said he has tried tons of the wd 40 tried this door and key every day since this occured, to no avail....he is split between thinking either the key is worn out or the locks, he is thinking the locks as even putting it in the ignition and starting it( getting in via the boot) the doors do not unlock. I must say entry through the boot is not only difficult but sets the horn off every time.Anyways looks like hubby has put a sorn on the car as the urgent appointment he was heading to that day turned out to be MOT and Tax.Now were driving his recently deceased father's citroen xantia, being an American I want my bif ford car back, as my British husband certainly can appreciate, LOL..Im going for my test and want to take it in a big car like im used to.

As Andrew says it seems the locks are both worn or may be the key as well. It may be worth getting a new key cut just to see if that will be sufficient to release the locks. If the key is very badly worn it may be difficult to 'read'. Have a look at THIS page.

if its the locks that are worn, i guess if you got hold of a remote, you could programme it and use it to lock/unlock until you can get the locks replaced
