Hi there!
Many of you may by now know me from numerous 16V & 24V problems I have managed to drag into the daylight?
Now it's time to start digging into my DIESEL problems!
I just bought a -98 Diesel from Germany. My dealer/agent, did a lousy job on examining it and it came home with a seized A/C compressor etc.
The todo list is long, but the first thing is to sort out is why the car looses it's turbo charge!
This is what happens:
1. I start accelerating and push the pedal all the way into the engineroom.
2. I'll shift up and at around 3th / 4th gear keep the accelerator pedal nailed into the floor for let's say 10 or
more seconds.
(I'm not exceeding max revs or anything like that)
After that, there's no turbo unless I pull up, switch off the engine and start again.
What's that, someone has installed Windows into my ECU!?
I have read the Diesel looses power page on the site, but the symptoms are not quite the same I think. There are no DTC's recorded, at least I can't OBD II scan any of them. My scanner gives the normal sensor readouts from this car.
Scanner reports approx. 97kPa for the inlet manifold pressure under normal driving and when the charger "kicks" in, it goes up to 139kPa.
I like diesels, that's why I got this one, but it tries to kill my confidence on the diesel reliability before I have even registered the car...
Help please, help!
Anyone knows what the max kPa under charged conditions should be?

If you've got no fault codes then it could be leaking pipe connecting the MAP sensor to the inlet manifold, OR it could be an EGR valve problem. First try pulling the vacuum hose off the EGR valve and see if that improves things, though I don't suppose it will...

Weak spring on the wastegate actuator may also be a likley culprit.This means the wastegate will open under less pressure,thus not delivering full boost when required.HTH...Craig

Thanks guys! I did check on the EGR valve,it was blocked, so it was not in use. The wastegate spring definately can be a culprit! Hmmm... I did not find "a turbo manual" for this car, has anyone done the wastegate spring job before?
It is in the little "vacuum bell" in front of the turbo I think? Hmm... may need to be changed as a whole
I reckon. I did test it byt sucking the vacuum hose that went in there and it moved quite easily.

After unblocking the EGR and giving the wastegate vacuum "actuator" a good bj, it seems the car is now working better. It still feels a bit lazy, but I haven't driven a Scorpio diesel before, so I have nothing to compare it with. The Turbo comes in at around 2200 and fades away after 3000 rpm. You see a good smoke cloud behind the car when the turbo is in action and you can feel it is giving a bith of a boost. I haven't been holding the pedal in the floor, but it looks like it's sort of working now.

Thanks guys for the tips!
Went through the vacuum hoses last weekend and yes, the one that goes down on the side of the rad and then connect into a tube underneath the alternator was disconnected! Too much air got into the vacuum system and that was enough to cause this. Now it works as it should!

I'm quite pleased.
Today I sorted out my seized A/C compressor problem and had the A/C serviced. Needs only the drive belt now and it's Climate Controlled!
