hi guys bought a water pump wrong one of course too good to be true at £60.00 however on taking off the old one there has been no gasket used by whoever installed it instead all that was used was black gasket seal by the look of it what i would like to know is before going to the expense of another water pump is there any way i can test the old unit as i think the original leak was caused by the lack of a gasket there is no play at either the pulley end or the wheel end no obvious noise when you turn the pump any help would be welcome also any idea where i can source a gasket as fords only sell them with a new pump thanks mark

meatman. Difficult to test off car without pressure and movement. Can you see any sign of gland leakage out of the drain hole ? If not I would make yourself a gasket, cut a hole for the impeller, then coat the mating surface with something like gasket cement, press the cardboard onto the pump to transfer the pattern, then trim it out.
