adam.
Silly question, but are you using the right key ? as you may know any Ford key of that type will lock the doors but only the right key will open them.

Neither did I Huh

If it was just the one then you could say it's the microswitch in the door, both though is something else.

But then if it opens the boot and works the ignition ok Huh

You could try getting another key cut (you can read the code from your key and get one on eBay), a couple of people on here have had problems in the past where the key has worn slightly and where it was hardly used in the locks it wouldn't open them.

Regards, Bruce.

adam.
You can obtain a kit of little bits and pieces to rebuild the ignition lock(not sure about doors). As Tiberius says you can read the key according to the depth of the cuts.If you look at it there are six cuts, four depths are used,eg 141232 in a vast range of different combinations. The Ford bloke will read your key,if he is a fair man he will do it FOC,and advise you whether or not the door locks can be rebuilt. If they can,you could dismantle one,all the little segments are numbered individually,so you could get a seperate key for the locks.
       Good luck GOZZ.

You can get a full LOCK kit from FMD which includes ALL the doors and igniton for about £50 in Kit form . The ignition lock kit alone is £13 .... FIDDLEY but realatively easy job.
