Oil splattered all over the n/s/f wing

I have oil litteraly running of the nearside front of the engine compartment just below the air filter.  It has always been there, since I've had the Scorpio 2.3, about six months, it doesn't seem to make much difference to consumption it has done 180k after all.  But it worries me, where the hell does it come from.  Any suggestions?

  • Oil is a fossil fuel which means it comes from fossils.

  • The fossils that oil comes from started of as tiny sea creatures called plankton (millions and trillions of plankton) and bits of dead plant matter that got washed out to sea

  • As the plankton died and the plant matter sank to the bottom of the sea they formed a layer and combined with minerals like sand to make a soft layer of rock.

  • Very slowly over millions of years the layer changed into oil

  • The oil collected in pools in the layers of rock called reservoirs

or is that not what you meant?? ROFL

seriously though a small amount of hot oil sprayed can look a lot, actually does it look as if its being sprayed? if so could be oil cooler lines.....

This may be of help to you but i had the same thing on my 2.3 it was coming from the top back breather pipe. I changed the sponge filter in the air filter box were the breather pipe goes into the box had no trouble since. Try it dosnt take long to do.dave

Funnily enough there does appear to be a pipe that has been blanked of, it is on the near side right at the top of the radiator, its about 3/4 inch dia it has been cut to about 2 inch with a bolt put in to seal it.  Everything seems to work, except the air con.  Could this have been the 'leak'?

yeah thats a 24v rad, if it bothers you, you can fit the cossie header tank and just run the extra pipe back to the rad,

the ac broke on the aluminum joint just next to the ns head light

No if it is ok I'll just leave it alone if it istn't doing any harm.  But your comment about the ally joint interests me, could you be more precise please.  Thanks.

if you follow the ally pipe arrowed back into the engine bay, you'll find the crimp connection where the ally is conected to the rubber hosing,

that crimp connection on my 24v split there and covered the inner near side front wing in the ac gas (which has oil in it to lube the compressor), has a sort of solvent type smell compaired to the auto or engine oil which smells mineralally and is a greeny colour. if you look at the pic you posted, you can see the ally pipe on the left hand side of that pic, follow that along its length
