hi
finally got back to looking at the car (2.9 24v) and there is no spark to any of the leads
im at a loss at where to look next ive swopped the complete wiring loom for a good condition scrap one replaced the dis pack off the scrap engine i bought
and i am back to square one
the original problem was after replacing the water pump and repairing the wiring loom in places where the insulation had rotted i took the car for a spin i got about 2 miles from home put my foot to the floor and the engine died after a few minutes of cranking the car restarted but all it would do was crawl along at about 20 mph when i tried to accelerate it started to hesitate then cut out again and this is where i am at now it would not restart at all
i bought a scrap engine and gearbox from a working car and swopped the loom, crank sensor, waterpump, and dis pack
im at a total loss at what to do next i dont want to have to scrap the car after the expense and time i have put into the car
it is just so annoying that it will crank but not fire up has anybody any idea where i should be looking next
regards

Which loom did you replace?

have you tried working through the fault finder??

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

Still sounds to me like an EDIS unit or wiring fault on that part of the loom

highlander
it was the loom that services the gearbox and engine
im sure this is going to be something simple and im going to end up kicking myself
ive been through all the fuses and relays as per the fault finder i am planning to take the belts off again tommorow and look for any damage to the new loom
i did notice tonight the insulation is cracked at the plug end of the crank sensor but i dont think it is shorting but i amm going to crack it all open tommorow just in case

Try wiggling the wires at the EDIS unit while someone cranks it, keeping all your dangly bits out of the way of the engine Wink

The symptoms you describe when it cut out are exactly the same as I saw on a 2.3 with dodgy EDIS loom wiring
