Radio Code & door locks

Hi guys... I've just picked up a 96 2.3 16v Ultima, and for some reason the battery was flat the first day I came to use it. I took the battery off, and it's now fully charged, but now I seem to have lost the radio code. I can't find any security info in the (limited) documentation that came with the old girl, can anyone suggest anything? Also (now I'm being picky!), the 6 stack CD changer in the boot wouldn't read discs, and simply gave the message 'check disc'. Door locks The door locks apparantly worked well, prior to a jet wash before selling, is this a reasonable excuse, as only the passenger side works now? I've tried WD40......! (General comment now) It's alot of car for alot of money, I'm not an aspiring mechanic, I hope the reliability is good, it's the first Ford I've had since a Mark II 1600 sport Escort in the mid 80's!! I will be attempting to keep on top of general servicing, I just hope nothing goes pop!! On a final note, I'd like to say hello to everyone on the forum, I think this is the first one I've joined! BigMumf (Off to work on a bloody saturday!!!!)

Hi, if you get the serial number from the side of the radio I or someone else on here can give you the code no problem. Door locks wear and probably need replaced/rebuilt

Thanks Highlander, I'll have a go at both those on my next day off! I'm hoping to make a real effort with this car, my last car was a new Renault, and it had no soul, but there's something about this car that I really like. The last car I felt passionatly about a car was a Daimler I had, that was LPG converted and blew up on the M1!!! Really pleased to have found this forum too, although looking through the site, I think the more technical problems will have to be done by someone other than me!!!!!

When you say JUST picked up, presumably that was in the previous couple of hours as it was still running! Only joking mate. You do get the odd problem with them though....

You don't have to be mad to own a Scorp - but it helps!

The CD Changer may just need a lens clean ( Use a disc to do that ) or may be a loose lead wher it connects .

Cheers Snoopy, I tried the lens thing (ex DJ), plus threw some wires around, but it just refuse to read the discs. I'm not really that bothered, I'll hopefully pick one up off e-bay!! I've managed to clock 600 miles in the first week, and the old girl hasn't missed a beat. YET!!!! There must be some reliable ones out there, the law of averages etc....

We only get to hear of the bad ones on here really, My scorpio ( now sold ) I had for nearly 11 years, it had 140 k on the clock and really it never missed a beat except for two batteries and tyres , regular oil and filter changes, along with two new rear hubs and bearings. It still had everything as original and flew through the MOT this year . Good luck with it.

Yep you're in the PROBLEMS section after all maybe we should have a FINE AND DANDY section where you come on and tell everyone how good your Scorpio is instead of whats wrong with it

Hi Bigmumf Just a thought re the discs, my CD doesn't recognise discs that are CD -RW but does CD -R and all others Are you trying discs which you have recorded yourself or store bought ? Alastair
