Hello Peter. On the main site, there's an article about rebuilding the fuseboxes, you can get an idea how involved it is from this. Never had to do this (luckily) but depending how able you are, rebuilding the fusebox might be the way to go rather than just replacing it with another. Depends whether the mica insulators are damaged at all Are new fuseboxes even available from Ford anymore? Good luck. Regards, Bruce.

do you really want to go to the bother of rebuilding the box? there are plenty of cars being broken on here so there must be a spare one going somewhere, and probably cheaper too. by the way i trust you have a battery cover in place?. stay dry

peterphaynes. Is it the central fusebox,or the auxilliary box near the battery ? as v4 max says you will be OK for a used one as many are being weighed in,and some people are astute enough to remove the fuseboxes. The aux box is not too bad a job,the central one is a trifle tricky, but not beyond the bounds of determination ! Found the problem i think-!-When the car would not start (the passenger fusebox was drowned and yes-no battery cover fitted had no idea it was missing so have manufactured a substitute till get hold of a new one) the "repair man" removed the large connector on the Drivers side box and refitted it wrong (1 pin out i think) After drying out and coating with WD40 all now works- Thanks to all-Peter Haynes

Glad to hear that Peter and thanks for your PM's. A battery cover is about a tenner from a Ford dealer unless you can aquire one from a member on here. Mike.

I reckon the battery cover is a cosmetic accessory ! It can't stop water going into the well, and the fusebox has a good seal, unless of course the drain is bunged up with leaves,in which case the box could be under water eventually. GOZZ.

| I agree that the battery cover won’t stop water gathering in the well, but I disagree about it being cosmetic & the seal being good. The fuse box cover has long poorly braced sides that warp over time, the cover on the spare box I’m looking at now is bowed outwards so that the seal misses the box in places. I suspect there are more drain holes than have been discovered that need unblocking.

Im thinking of manufacturing some sort of cover for the cowl grille, possibly of fiberglass or somthing and with rubber edges. To be used for example when washing the car or long time parking outside... Just for precaution.. //Snowy.

My understanding is that the problem was with the auxiliary box, but another problem was introduced by the repair man looking at the main box and not putting the plug back properly.

i've rebuilt my fuseboxes not so long ago although it occurred to be in mint condition, but i did it for the peace of mind after i bought my car, it's a job for a saint but worth doing as used ones u can buy on ebay usually need rebuilding anyway and cost around 100£. If that's any help I can help with future problems with fuseboxes and rebuild them for you for a few £...
