The aircon comes on if the selector is set to windscreen. Watch the centre of the aircon pulley, if the bolts at the centre of the pulley rotate the aircon is on.

You could just unplug it temporarily, there’s a plug underneath the compressor.

I wouldn’t have thought the HBC as that is the heater blower control, so shouldn’t affect the aircon as such although it may have an influence on how quickly the aircon cycles when it’s on. I’m not that well up on the aircon, so can’t really answer, you could try reseating the ribbon cable behind the climate control panel.

It won’t do any damage in the short term, but it needs to be run periodically to prevent seal damage, but no problem just to get it mot’d. The light will still come on. Does it affect the revs much when it cuts in? It should be barely noticeable, you may need to clean the IAC valve: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/iacvdata.htm I usually just take the valve off, pour in some light oil or redex & work the piston back & forth to force oil into the chamber (the piston rod is hollow, so oil will be forced through it if you cover the bleed hole at the end), others use carb cleaner.

It's on top of the inlet manifold, the arrow in the middle of this picture points to it's plug: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/top%201.jpg Don't go mad tightening the bolts as it's a plastic manifold (not that I've heard of anyone having problems with this part of the manifold).

big_timer. Just as a two minute experiment, try seperating the de ice switch plug(offside of evaporator housing).Someone had fitted a relay in place of one of mine(never knew why),but the fans ran all the time. GOZZ.

Have you checked the ECT sensor in the inlet manifold, if it's disconnected, has a bad connection or is faulty then this can cause the fans to run at full steam all the time Edit.......Sorry, didn't read all the postings properly before & have just seen that this was also suggested by ScorpioWorld, although it was referred to as the fan switch. Have you ruled out the ECT yet ?
