Yet another remote fob question!

Hi all,
the remote fob packed up on the Scorpio TD a couple of weeks ago. I went through the usual procedure that has always worked before, checking battery, cleaning connections, glueing fresh tin foil onto the buttons and reprogramming it via the ignition switch but this time nothing worked.
I managed to get another fob from ebay but this won't work either so I'm wondering if it's a problem on the car. could someone answer the following questions please?
1) My car is a 97 pre facelift ,& the fob had 1 battery (2032), the replacement fob came from an M reg and has the two thinner batteries (2016). Should it still work on the car?
2)Will the single thick battery work in the earlier remote or will I need to get the two thinner ones to boost the voltage to 6v?
3) Is there any way of checking that the fobs work short of programming them to another Scorpio? If this is the only option is there someone near Rosyth in Fife that could let me check them against their car?
4) If the fault is on the car, what is the most likely culprit?

Any help on this would be most welcome as I have the usual problem with the door locks in that they lock from the outside but won't unlock  Sad I'm getting really funny looks when I climb in through the tailgate in Tescos carpark, thank god it's an estate   Grin

Cheers Jim

Jim, the first thing to check is that the little upright 'tag' by the batteries is actually maiking contact with the circuit board when the two are placed together. This can be a case of trial and error. I am unaware of any way of checking the unit other than with another car. Insofar as the door locks are concerned it would appear that your key is worn or the locks are and a new key may solve the problem. ANY Ford key will lock the car but it requires the correct one to open it and if yours is badly worn it will not do so. A recent post re; "Locked out" was solved by simply having a new key cut.

Hi Simmo, I've got the complete set of locks from my spares car to fit at some point, it's on the too do list for later in the year. I didn't get the red key with my car so I planned to change everything over, including the immobiliser ECU when I get the time. I did have a look at the upright tag on my original lock and from my measurements, it looks like it is making contact, not a lot of room for error on that little square though  Wink

Jim. AFAIK, either type of battery should work, they're both the same voltage. From memory I had 2x2016's on mine, just make sure they meet the little terminals.

Maybe post it to another member so they can try it and post it back?

I had murders with my original fob, in the end just couldn't get it programmed at all. By the time I got one that worked (and worked from a lofty 25ft away Shocked) from one of the guys on here I went and sold the car, just my luck Roll Eyes

Both the 2016 and the 2032 are 3v, but 2x 2016 in series makes 6v. There was some discusion way back about these fobs and their batteries, but no absolute conclusion was arrived at.

From memory those who had a remote fitted with 2x 2016' found theirs would still work with 1x 2032. None of the owners of the remotes originally fitted with 1x 2032 was willing to risk putting 2x 2032 cells in to see if theirs still worked.
