Motor noise at O/S/R

Driving along the other day & I could hear an electric motor noise going on at the rear. Pulled up, turned off the engine, but the electric motor noise still carried on Appears to be coming from the petrol cap area. Opened petrol flap & the petrol flap lock wasn't going in & out. Then locked the car with the remote.....still making a motor noise.....then double locked the car & motor stopped. Obviously something to do with the petrol flap/double locking motor....but what is causing the motor to start going nuts ?

Jon, I think you have the wiring diagrams sent out by Snoopy. If not let me know. THIS shows the wiring to the petrol cap unit which is all part of the central locking system. I would guess that there is a problem with the contacts or the wiring so it keeps 'cycling' much as door locks do if there is a dodgy contact on any one of them. Is the flap correctly sited or is it somehow fouling the plunger and preventing it from locating in the hole on the flap?. This would have the same effect. Regards to all, Mike.
