Anybody have any experience\suggestions as how best to seperate just the headlight glass from the black plastic that it is bonded to? I have a complete spare headlight to use but cannot just replace the whole unit as its a facelift mismatch. Any ideas?

You can apparently cut the bonding with a flexi blade and then reseal the new glass onto it again using exterior silicone . BUT great care is needed keep BOTH hands behind the knife blade. I have just found THIS which MIGHT help.

Beware! I changed the glass only and thought I'd sealed it really carefully. However first time it rained the thing steamed up and never dried out! Getting the glass detached from the headlight is reasonably easy. Hope this helps.

hi there the lens was about £50 from fordpartsuk.com a few years ago. as stated, much easier to change the lens complete (black or chrome) than just the glass. hth

I did the conversion myself and it was a total success, I used a Black Hammerite smooth airosol to paint it but you have to sand all the chrome effect surface off first which is quite easy to do with fine wet and dry.... Get some clear silicon (don't use acrylic) mastic and apply a good 4mm bead... Leave it for 24 hours to cure, you should be able to see it is sealed all the way round from the front hth Pete further to this, when a woman had smashed the headlight etc the other year I tested the strengh of it and it was as good as the original, a new one was fitted and you can't tell the 2 apart....
