if the anti rattle clips etc are fitted correctly then they shouldnt rattle. you sure its not a broken coil spring, they often rattle against bodywork then stop under braking as they are under a bit of pressure...

A generous helping of copper grease around the pads might help  Smiley

Had this problem on my Granada (same caliper) annoying rattle especially over bumps, couldn't find the cause for ages.
I stripped the o/s caliper and found that the clip was weakened and kept slipping out, (rubbing marks) I fitted a new spring and the problem stopped....

Have checked boths coil springs and they are ok,applied a generous helping of copper grease to brake pads and have tightened spring clip by removing first and bending back to enable them to hold caliper better. The rattle has improved but is still there slightly when driving over rough ground.Any further advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's the brakes rattling & not suspension/steering related ?  Smiley

Check everything on the exhaust is tight and not rattling too.  It could be somewhere not associated with brakes...

I agree with Jonnycab - never heard of brake pads rattling - they are normally a pretty close fit in the caliper and then squashed between the piston and disc - doubt there is more than a couple of thou gap.
Have you checked the link rod between the suspension strut and anti-roll bar ?

A worn track rod inner ball joint can make a rattling noise over lumpy ground. I recently had this & it took me a little while to find that it was the ball joint that was actually making the noise.

To be honest I would have expected it to make more of a knocking noise, but then again, it wasn't too badly worn. Maybe if I'd left it longer then it may have developed into a knock  Undecided
