running problems

hi everyone i am hoping someone out there can help me with this problem. i have a ultima 2.9 it was running spot on then out of the blue it stated playing up. i can get it to start first turn of the key if i leave it over nght the rest of the time i am having to put my foot fully down on thotle, if i keep the cr at over 2000rpm it runs fine and drives spot on as sdoon as i take foot off the gas or stop or allow it to drop below the 2000rpm it cuts out and most of ther time wont start again for a while and will keep doing this if it helpsit is also an esate and auto box i need urgent help with this one a need the car for the school runs as the kids scholl is some 10 mil;es away many thanks ian

check induction hoses for splits, check all wiring secure, check fuel pressure. just for starters.

all wires sucure, hoses seem good, not sure how to cheack the fuel presser though. it also seems now that when i do get it start it runs very lumpy for around a minute then seems smoth running again but still same problem as well.

bigian. See if you can borrow a throttle potentiometer to temporarily substitute for yours,it only takes five minutes to swap over,little black plastic thing with two screws and a plug, on the back of the throttle shaft at the front of the engine,they are 40 odd quid from Ford ! GOZZ.
