Ren, you make a good point there  Wink....flushing doesn't necassarily work, because the water doesn't have to go through all the veins in order to exit the matrix. The whole matrix has to be flowing with hot coolant for it to produce good heat, but if the veins are blocked or restricted then only a minimal amount of water is flowing through maybe a couple of veins, so turning on the blower will only give a quick blast of heat  Smiley

Since I replaced my matrix (& before), I have read loads of different techniques of trying to unblock the matrix & none have ever worked long term....from flushing it for hours (not good if you're on a water meter) to filling it with limescale remover & leaving it to soak for a couple of days  Undecided....have even read about filling it with Coca Cola or Pepsi in the hope the phosphoric acid in these sugary products may somehow be the miracle cure to a blocked matrix  Huh

I think that once the scale & stodge gets into those very thin veins, then it is almost impossible to clear it....plus the fact that limescale being an alkali, may have actually eaten through the aluminium matrix & caused it to leak  Wink

How long a matrix lasts is all down to whether the vehicle has been properly serviced in the past & basic (Ford) servicing doesn't usually include a cooling system flush & fresh antifreeze. Also, depending on what area of the country you live in, you are probably more likely to have more problems in a hard water area  Smiley

Freddieboy, I can't understand why Ford can't supply the correct matrix  Huh.....oh yea, sorry, it's Essex Ford  Roll Eyes.....I don't bother with them anymore...they're useless  Angry

Tell the garage to ring Dovercourt Ford in Chelmsford....they're much better  Wink.....I ordered my matrix (2.3 with aircon....they're all different apparently Roll Eyes) from them. I rang them late afternoon & asked if they could get it to the (smaller, but nearer to me) South Woodham Dovercourt the next morning......."no problem, It'll be there by 10am"....& it was  Shocked..... Cool

Are you sure the garage aren't spinning you a yarn because they didn't realise the magnitude of the Scorpio matrix replacement & they're still scatching their heads about how best to tackle it ?  Grin

Thanks Jon, I rang the garage this morning and gave them the Dovercourt Ford info plus the Kempston Rads Bedford number, plus the core size etc.   They even tried County Radiators, who specialise in rebuilds, but no go.  Everybody seems to have given them the runaround, I dont blame them at all.  Hopefully the new contacts will come up trumps. Cry    Meanwhile the only upside is that I`m saving fuel!  cheers fred

I know many garages think it the height  of  impudence and they can be surprisingly huffy and sometimes refuse the work,  but  I  always  buy  the  part/s  first   [obviously not service items]   which cuts out the interminable amount of time wasted by them  sourcing an item  that  you   found and  paid  for  after only  5  minutes  online.

  A lot cheaper too. Cool

County Rads in Basildon don't seem to have heard of the Scorp  Huh.... I rang them a while back about a rad for a 2.3 & guess what ?....they don't do those either  Huh......& they're supposed to be one of the best rad suppliers in the country  Roll Eyes

Hello All.  Got the car back at 3pm this afternoon.  heater working well.  Total cost was £328.90.  The matrix was supplied by Kempston Radiators of Bedford (tel.01234 852073) and they sent the correct part within 24hrs  (part no. 4001250).
The only downside is that the car has got to go back tomorrow because the anti theft alarm and the front parking sensors arent working.  Not surprising really considering the amount of electrics behind the dash.  But the heater is excellent.  Thanks to all of you who took an interest and gave advice.  cheers fred

On closer inspection, the anti theft system is working-( I can hear the two seperate operations when locking manually or by keyfob) but there is no double flash of the side repeater lamps and indicators. does anyone have a clue where this circuit is fed from?   I may be able to fix it myself IF ITS ACCESSIBLE  Grin Grin

possibly been reset then? I've heard of it going off after working on the car which means reprogramming.

never heard of it being a physical problem before.
